Liminal Spaces 1

"In my process to simplify my experience of nature, I first brushed out large forms with an acrylic wash. I let the marks left by this wash guide my imagination and next steps in applying pastel. Instead of using typical local colors and careful, methodical strokes, I expressed my experience of nature through particular color relationships and gestural mark-making. This way I hope to access the heart of the human experience. In this painting, the suggestion of trees is most recognizable, These rhythmic marks are a grounding subject used to represent the rhythm and order found in forests. The rest of the painting is left to one's imagination."
