Nancy (she/her/hers) is a classically trained artist currently using photography and digital painting to explore the aesthetics of the natural landscape. The colors are intensified and the forms are abstracted to express the mystical qualities one experiences while absorbed in the beauty of nature. Nancy received her B.A. and M.F.A. degrees in Fine Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles and a PhD degree in Educational Psychology from Texas A & M University, College Station.
As Nancy describes, “During the 1990's I bought a computer and began to teach myself digital media because I believed it would be the future of visual arts.” Nancy was right and this led her to become successful in digital media. She then exhibited with seminal digital artist groups International Webism and the New York based Visual Arts League. Nancy has developed a unique style that blends photography and digital painting.
Nancy experiences severe hearing loss and previously experienced mental illness during a difficult period in her life. When applying for teaching positions at colleges and universities in the early 2000’s, she was turned away because her hearing loss made it difficult to conduct audio lectures, discussions and seminars. Nancy adapted and overcame this obstacle by teaching online and using a captioning service on her computer.
Nancy continues to use her computer to express herself artistically. Her images can be output in a variety of sizes and on many different types of substrates including paper, fabric, wood, metal, stone, cement, Plexiglas, and adhesive materials. Nancy’s artworks are included in collections in Japan, Belgium, and the Medical Colleges of Virginia Hospitals and the Las Vegas Art Museum. Her digital works have been included in the Museum of Modern Art New York’s “Museum as Muse” online exhibition and “The Petersburg Biennale of Computer Graphics” in St. Petersburg, Russia, as well as in the McNay Art Museum 2014 “Art to the Power of 10”; 2014 “Nuevo Arte” at UTSA and the 2014 “Spark” exhibition at the San Diego Convention Center. She was selected as one of 10 artists for the San Antonio Department of Creative and Cultural Development’s Public Art Mentorship program and was a featured artist at San Antonio’s 2017 Luminaria Contemporary Arts festival.
