Yellow Tilt

"In this seemingly simple piece, it becomes complex when I use the psychology of color to demonstrate several things;

First, the colors I used in the rectangle are colors which compete for dominance when placed adjacent to each other. The result of this creates the illusion that some colors are 'embossed' in the canvas because the most dominate color pushes the adjacent color away. However, as you stare at this piece, domination will change, so you, the viewer, is left unsure of which color is actually dominant. The dominate color creates the illusion of highlights and shadows where upon closer inspection, aren't really there.

Secondly, 'Yellow Tilt' demonstrates the power of a predominate color. Here we see a small, black, inverted triangle that appears to be tilting the colored rectangle. That dark little triangle becomes powerful enough to tilt the object in this setting because it is heavier in appearance than the other colors. It also creates movement by appearing to push the rectangle downward as it tilts it."
