Winter Cave

"As one might imagine, I painted this during winter. I was reminded one day of a park we used to play in as kids that was pretty much on a cliffside in Pittsburgh. As the rock and shale formations eroded, it carved out deep little caves in the process. While I was painting this, I imagined the snowcapped ledges melting as the weather warmed and icy water running down the stone. 'Winter Cave' is not so much about the actual caves, but as our childhood imaginations allowed, these were large, dark and mysterious places within the hillsides."
