"On one of our family vacations, we drove to Arizona, to visit a friend. It was the first time I had been out West, and we played old cowboy songs as we drove across deserts, enthralled by the beauty of the mountains, buttes, and the sparce cactus and yellow wildflower, the layers of color in a cliffside, the very thought that all of this was part of an ancient sea bed! From this experience emerged a love for this area, and I was inspired to create this painting, from my many sketches and photos of that area. Later on, at the request of many of my artist friends, I taught classes in this medium at my Largo Studio, which kept me very busy for several years."
