Which Way is Up?

"This is a piece that I started a while ago and worked on in phases, finally finishing it in the summer of 2023. I started playing with colors, shapes and forms, and thought it was finished, but I was not satisfied with it at all. As time went on, I was inspired by my own ongoing collection of hand-picked Seaglass, driftwood and pottery shards from the Boston Harbor islands. The sea foam hues of the glass along with pottery shard markings and ragged edges seemed to flow out of my hands as I returned to this piece. As beachcombing along the shores is one of the great managers of my anxiety I transferred that process into the final phase of this piece. And, like beachcombing, where my optical focus is consistently downward toward the earth... My perspective skewed and widened when lifting my head and looking out at the vastness of the sea....and the sky. No longer sure which way was up and which way was down!"
