When Autumn Tears Became Spring

"This painting comes from an ongoing effort I am developing called “Inner Garden Portrait” It stems from lessons I’ve learned in my own journey with disability hardship, and caregiving: I have learned to believe that we all have a place in the truth of our hearts, which to me feels like an inner garden, where our own version of joy and calmness are always growing, and that when we learn to visit it, and connect with it, even while facing challenging circumstances, we are able meet our inner strength, and we rest and recharge ourselves with hope and possibility. As an artist and a human, I have set out to work with other people to help rediscover that connection and space deep within to distill joy and hope around their own wrecking moments filled with grief, finding these seed moments around them and creating the physical representation and planting their inner garden; we meet, we share a space free of judgement, I do my best to guide them with questions, and from these answers, I intuitively create. I feel that this process brings my own healing journey and their story together in purpose, and we recognize their inner light when it seems to hide, but it is always there. This inner garden tells the story of a moment of difficult health news and honors the tears we cry, which can be so cleansing and needed, although painful. When we look back and zoom out, sometimes we see that in spite of the challenges we face, we might still have a full life, relationships that support us and opportunities to flourish into the light when we open to discover the surprises outside of what seems like an impossible maze. We might be able to find color In our darkest moments and witness our inner light glowing, helping us navigate seasons of change."
