Wabi Sabi

"Living with ADHD I have created many systems to manage my everyday life. This is no different with my artwork- These systems in art usually manifest themselves in pieces that have a sticker-like quality with a focus on clean lines and symmetry. This painting is a unique peek into my mind when it is leaning away from it's natural instincts to create this way and allow for discomfort to take the lead. This is the first time that here is a sense of calm in my work that is beautiful made by allowing myself to get uncomfortable. Usually a feeling of chaos is created when I go outside of my comfort zone. Wabi Sabi by definition is an aesthetic by finding beauty in imperfection, diving even deeper into my discomfort not only am I working against my natural inclination toward bold color, hard lines, and symmetry- but I am also showing restraint. Restraint for me was the next step. Wabi Sabi also shows a daisy in three very different forms including my Dying Daisy. I sign all my paintings with the Dying Daisy- The daisy represents how things can be beautiful despite being imperfect."
