The Whitley

"Living with ADHD I have created many systems to manage my everyday life. This is no different with my artwork- These systems in art usually manifest themselves in pieces that have a sticker-like quality with a focus on clean lines and symmetry. This painting is a unique peek into my mind when it is leaning away from it's natural instincts to create this way and allow for discomfort to take the lead. There is a sense of chaos that is beautiful made by allowing myself to get uncomfortable, Letting go and allowing for imperfection to take the lead. That being said, I sign all my paintings with the Dying Daisy- The daisy represents how things can be beautiful despite being imperfect. The Whitley was inspired by a conversation with an art collector friend, James Whitley, that challenged me to see what my work looks like when it is lead by black rather than bright colors. It opened up an new arena for me that I really love. The Whitley was made at a time that the world was in a heightened state of fear. For me personally it was quite the opposite.I was able to have the space to create and explore the world with very little distraction. It allowed a freedom that I had never experienced before or have since."
