"This is centered around one of a series of rune-like oval patterns I found up near the tidepools. There were a number of them, all set out from the rock, very similar but not identical. They fascinated me. To be honest, I don't know if they are some fossil remnant or some other natural formation I'm not familiar with. I kept returning to them while making this series, they look like primitive messages.. The colors are the colors of near-sunset. Sand textures and patterns, tree rings, and delicate branches blended in. Something different this time—I live in a nature reserve in Santa Cruz, there’s an amazing diversity of beauty, shapes, colors and natural processes here. I have and shot new images of this area and these are collages, composites of many of those images. They include sand, rocks, rune-like repeating patterns in the stone. Sunsets, ocean, pond, coastal shots, petals, leaves, trees."
