The Meaningful Non-Issue

"This piece uses layers of translucency and opacity to engage the viewer in a play of surface and depth. Acrylic paint, applied directly onto plexiglass, creates gestural, almost calligraphic marks that move fluidly across the surface. These earthy-toned strokes evoke primitive symbols or markings but resist clear interpretation, lingering in abstraction. Affixed behind the plexiglass, a stark black piece of photo paper introduces a weighty, opaque void, disrupting the flow of the brushwork and drawing the eye into its darkened depths. This black form acts as a visual interruption, a portal that suggests an unknown space or hidden dimension beyond the painted surface. The interaction of plexiglass with studio accessories, like an opaque sheet behind it, subtly affects light and shadow, adding further complexity. This layering creates a contemplative, enigmatic effect, inviting the viewer to explore the boundaries between seen and unseen, surface and depth, in a state of meditative ambiguity."
