The Big Bang
"This is one of my earliest works when I was recovering from my second surgery. Making art became meditative and therapeutic for me, helping me escape from pain. During this period, I had to lay on a Bone Stimulator for 3 hours a day. While laying on it, I thought about the electrical impulses sent out by the device to stimulate bone growth to strengthen the fusion of bone that had been grafted from my pelvis into the sections between vertebras, which became the inspiration for Big Bang. Miami Art Critic, Carlos Suarez De Jesu, in his review titled the Human Condition of my solo exhibition "Beyond Pain" wrote the following: Big Bang is akin to one of Georgia O'Keeffe's orchids or a Robert Mappelthorpe calla lilly. The work is rendered in luscious hibiscus red and green water color like ink washes, and bristles with sensuality. A vulva-shaped halo of light shimmers nebulously near the center."
