Swirl-A-Gig

"There is a deceptive amount of discipline that comes with having ADHD. In its constant search for dopamine, I am a vehicle with faulty brakes, which means the only means of stopping myself is the emergency brake. Accelerating too quickly or not keeping an eye firmly on the road in front of me can mean an accident of disastrous proportions. I cannot slow down gradually. Instead my forward momentum is abruptly halted so I can double check that I am on the right road, in the proper lane, and following the correct directions. It's exhausting to maintain that level of heightened awareness, but worse, it's disheartening. I feel betrayed by my own body. I am the faulty brakes."
