"Recently an artist I admire suggested I work freehand in developing landscape paintings from photographs. This painting was an experiment in representing forms not exactly in their original dimensions, but interpreted more freely by my drawing hand on the paper, before paint was applied. I love the shapes in this cactus and the curves of light and shadow. This piece was inspired by a photograph I took in San Pere de Ribes, Spain."
