River Runs Through The Forest

"The series of paintings with acrylic ink challenges me to pursue different atmospheres and backgrounds of nature. I love looking through the forest of trees and imagining where they go.... The shadows, light, and other aspects of nature create all kinds of patterns. When I paint these series they all have their own lines and directions. I just use color to start a direction or movement from one side to the other as well as from top to bottom. Working on this shape (square as opposed to the rectangle) requires different patterns to make it all work.

Another challenge for this particular style was allowing some of the blank white canvas show through. It can be very difficult to stop at a certain point. Many times you want to think you have to paint the whole thing but the canvas creates a layer that is required to make this particular style work."
