Queens Gal 2
"This series was inspired by nostalgia of the past, specifically growing up in Queens, NY during the 80's, the carefree 'golden' era of my youth. It is mainly the memories of little moments of time that leave imprints in my mind. Queens is a large part of who I am which is reflected in my work thus leading to my inspiration to create the Queens Gal series. Queens, to me, is a patchwork of diverse, unique neighborhoods, each with its own distinct identity. It is layers of diverse cultures built upon each other. It’s a collage of colorful awnings, the exotic flavors, the home of punk rock and hip hop, the architectural shapes of the bridges, train stations and landmarks, and the noise of traffic and foreign languages all contribute to Queens’ disheveled, urban and colorful beauty. The use of varying paint consistencies and techniques result in organic, imperfect details. A collage of multiple layers of acrylics, hand torn paper and oil pastels are built upon one another which show the juxtaposition of disheveled edges alongside jagged edges and free-flowing fluids. The vibrant color palette reflects the melting pot of cultures."
