Quadratafield 1
"An outgrowth from my architecture, in some of my works, I use the grid as the paradigm to organize a composition. In Quadratafield I, a grid of 14 columns and 14 rows create a matrix of 196 squares. This grid of squares is analogous to pixels, speaking to the digital technology that is my medium. Inscribed within each square is another rotated square. The angle of rotation of the squares alternate at 30 degrees and 60 degrees. The spaces outside the rotated squares in each grid section form right triangles. When four grid sections meet, the four right triangles form rhombuses (diamonds), and these triangles forming the rhombuses are filled in with a palette of 16 colors. As the boxes alternate, so do the rhombuses from vertical to horizontal. I exploit the complexity of these alternating geometric shapes further by dividing the rotated squares at the diagonal making two isosceles right-angled triangles with one of these triangles filled in black. And I further the complexity even more by alternating from grid section to grid section the black filled triangles. From all of these geometric interventions, a dance ensues across the grid. This is an example of how I use geometric abstraction, using color and geometry to express motion and energy. I strive to bring through works like this one, optical joy to the viewer and for me its creation is meditative and healing, allowing me to escape to a place where pain does not live."
