Quadrans Circuli 5
"The form of the circle finds its way into many of my works. Why the circle? For me, the circle is the most universal and archetypal of all forms, used by all cultures from all times to the present. An outgrowth from my architecture, in some of my works I use the grid as the paradigm to organize a composition. Quadrans Circuli 5 first started with a gridded array of circles split into quadrants. A quadrant is each of four quarters of a circle. Like a conductor conducting a symphony with color being the musical notes, with a palette of 22 colors, a color was assigned to each quadrant of each circle and the diamond shapes between the circles. An added layer of composition was made by floating some of the circles above the others in multiple layers. Adding still more to the composition and complexity was combining circles and the interstitial diamond shapes together. These shapes are metaphorically dancers, dancing to the song of colors they inhabit. Like my other Quadrans Circuli pieces, while creating them is meditative and healing, they represent optical dynamism and my goal is to achieve a sense of optical joy to the viewer."
