Nine-X
"I challenge myself with finding new ways of putting shapes together. With Nine-X, I embarked on a geometric exploration of what I could create with just two polygons, the square and the rhombus. For those uninitiated, in Euclidean geometry, a rhombus is a quadrilateral whose four sides all have the same length. Simply put, think of a diamond such as a baseball diamond. With these two basic Euclidean geometric shapes, I came up with an original pattern by pairing and rotating the squares and rotating the rhombuses. I then isolated 4 of the squares and 8 of the rhombuses in the pattern which make for X like shapes. These X’s have an optical illusion of being in 3d with the upper legs of the X’s appearing to project outward toward the viewer and the lower legs appearing to project away from the viewer. I enlarged and overlaid 8 of these X’s on the background pattern and added color."
