Nesting 2

"My 'Nesting' series is comprised of hard-edge paintings that share 'like' geometry that vary in color and uses of the basic geometry. When I began the series, I struggled for its name. By the time I was done the first one, it was still nameless. Then, a friend came to visit, took one look at the piece and said (unsolicited), 'Cool! Nesting tables.' So, I liked the 'nesting' and kept it.

'Nesting 2' differs from its predecessor through changes in the basic geometry and a much bolder color palette. This version compels the viewer to linger. By using competing colors adjacent to each other, they compete for dominance, thus changing its sense of depth while being viewed. It also creates shadows that aren't really part of the painting. Painting this became difficult as the opposite colors were laid next to each other. The shadow effect was messing with where the border lines were for the next color. It's a fun piece."
