Matador's Picador
"The meaning came to move after I started blocking in the colors. A Matador waving his red cape...The process is more complicated in this style that I developed. The first layer of these paintings are usually started with the leftover paint that I do not want to waste so I will take the paint and just layer it and scrub into the canvas. I use plastic palette knives to spread and scrape the canvas to create lines and marks and an abstract landscape for the next layer. The last layer is about standing back and looking at the marks and contemplating whether it is a landscape, an architectural design, or just abstract. I usually will start with a thin layer of paint to create shapes along the lines that I scraped. I continue from one shape to the next and allow the flow of movement tell me where to go. The influence of this painting I believe was the connection of the color palette."
