Lost and Forgotten

Kae

"One of the driving forces behind ADHD is the difficulty of working memory. I struggle to do even simple mental arithmetic or follow multi-step instructions without writing it down. This heavily impacts my ability to maintain information and can be hugely detrimental in my ability to complete tasks and follow directions. It goes beyond simple forgetfulness. Rather it metastasizes into a total lack of existence. It's more than misplaced car keys, but the complete erasure of objects or concepts within my life, despite how much effort I put into solidifying them in my reality. The murals photographed in the series "mind(less)" are located within my local community. I walk or drive past them on an almost daily basis. I have met friends beside them, been given them as a marker in directions. Despite their constant in my life, I couldn't say for certain where they were or how long they've been there. They exist in my life, but are not part of my life, much like many of the other things my working memory is unable to hold. The original mural was created by Nikki Trim in 2021.
