Life Lines, Fore and Aft

"This piece plays with orientation, perception, and the effects of spatial context on the ingrained concept of painting. A clear plexiglass plate, photographed while placed parallel to the ground and adorned with vibrant oil paint, appears as a chaotic yet harmonious map of gestures and colors. The four pieces of white balsa wood at the corners act as support in this suspended state, but when displayed, the work will stand upright on the wall, shifting the viewer's perspective and interaction with the composition. As the work transitions from a horizontal plane to a vertical frame, the viewer's perception is also transformed. No longer floating above, they confront the image head-on, allowing gravity and perspective to redefine the relationships within the piece. The fluidity between medium and presentation creates a dynamic, ever-shifting experience, challenging the viewer to question how perspective and positioning shape our interpretation of form and concept. The work exists not only as a painting but as an exploration of space, inviting the viewer to see from multiple vantage points and to engage with the art as a three-dimensional presence. The brushstrokes adorning the plate have a demeanor that dances and skips across the transparent surface in a dynamic interplay of line and color. The gestures are bold and varied, with sweeping arcs, fragmented shapes, and intersecting lines in an array of muted pastels and earth tones punctuated by sharper, more vibrant hues. This layered complexity suggests movement, as though the forms are in a state of flux, weaving through the space around them rather than resting on the surface."
