Lantern Path

"One of the exciting things about working with alcohol ink is that you can achieve many textures and colors with a few inks and techniques. This piece uses two inks and a variety of techniques to create an abstract landscape that reminds me of a lantern-lit path through a garden, with mountains in the background.

I'm not surprised that my subconscious artist creates dark natural scenes lit with light. I have a degenerative eye disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa, nicknamed "night blindness" which first presents as an inability to see in low light, progresses to a limited visual field, and often results in blindness.

To me, this piece has a positive message about living with low vision. The path in this piece is lit with lanterns to guide those of us with low vision safely home. I'm grateful for the people and situations in my life that are my "lanterns."
