Lake, Mountain and Sky
"This image is what led me to this new series. I've accumulated a decent library of sunrise, sunset, coast and sky images over time. Some I like quite a bit but there are many, many gorgeous photos of those things available to see. So the images are really just personal. I had one particular photo of a Lake Tahoe sunset—a trip there in 2021 with friends was the first time I'd gone away to a place in many years, and it was wonderful for that. And I had it up on my screen without my glasses on and looked at it from across the room. All I could really see were just wonderful gradients of the sky, water and mountain range. They weren't all smooth/perfect gradients, some were interrupted with bold lines of color that cut through the smoother areas. I decided I wanted to try to use photos I had from my collection to show these as abstracts, going back to my graphic design experience too do so. Abstracts, but still recognizable or registering as nature, as the colors of these moments, as I'd seen them without my glasses on. I expanded on that simple idea, and that led to this series"
