Into the Light
"I spend a good amount of time trying to figure out how to evoke feelings and create structures with minimal
information. I am fascinated by how the brain sees patterns and creates meaning from them and this piece was
no different. What makes a building or a tree? How do 2 dots and 2 lines create a couple walking? How do
paint splatters elicit an emotional response?
In the midst of the pandemic, the wake of the BLM protest in Seattle, and my second year post stroke; this
moment of calm in the city at night struck me. As I was painting, the beginning of a figure seemed to
emerged from a drip of paint so I quickly made another. The quiet beauty of the city lights above and this
couple walking towards the light of hope blazing ahead seemed apt."
