"I cannot trust my instincts because I do not have instincts. I have impulsivity and it is deceptive in its confidence. In the moment of action, there is such an enveloping certainty. It is not just the clear path, it is the only path. Everything was so clear, for a brief millisecond. It made sense. It was reasonable. Measured. Until it was so obviously not. In the clarity of post-impulse, the shame of such obvious mistakes haunts me. Not always - there are occasional inspirations that enlighten and amaze the masses, but those never hold the weight of the mistakes. I can count the mistakes, and I often do, like sheep when I'm drifting in the space between waking and dreams."
