Creation of Self

Kae

"The beauty of creation is play. So often we, as artists, are pressured to birth something of torturous metaphor that the joy in the process becomes lost. We aren't able to bring ourselves and so can rarely see ourselves reflected back in the work. In this series, "Glitter and Gold" I specifically worked without intention. I played. Curiosity drove me, along with my insatiable obsession with the flow and form of water. There were several unsuccessful attempts as I worked through the correct materials and ratios before the mixture of vegetable oil and biodegradable glitter found purchase. The series continues to be my favorite, not because of its meaning, but rather because of the potential it has for meaning. Unintentionally, I created a work that I could gift to the audience and allow them to make of it what they wished. And I hope they have as much fun in their creation as I did with my own."
