Bumps in the Road

"We all have “bumps in the road” from time to time. I certainly do. But those bumps only make us stronger. That is the message of this piece. The form of the circle has been a common geometric vehicle to express myself. In Bumps in the Road, gear like objects emerge from the intersections of an arrangement of six circles surrounding a larger circle. Invisible forces are at work here. The arrangement of these circles, infused with lively color, imply dynamism of movement and kinetic energy. I commonly use the contrast of black and white over a pallet of bold color. Here, I use black and white to denote a winding road. Along this winding road are interventions (those black and white circles intersecting the dashed lines representing the road), which spring from gears connected to a triangulated structure, representing the structure of my life. There’s an aspect of the child within that I also express here, with an abstract figure that represents me and an overall playfulness vibe. We must always connect to the child within and the wonder that formed us."
