Big Bessie
"Inspired by Gwendolyn Brooks's poem, Second Sermon on the Warpland - "A garbageman is dignified as any diplomat. Big Bessie's feet hurt like nobody's business, but she stands–bigly–under the unruly scrutiny, stands in the wild weed." With paper and tissue paper, the design shows Big Bessie with rose petals at her feet. The design gives Big Bessie flowers for the hardships she has endured and the scrutiny around her daily. To remind her of her of her worth."
