"Many of my paintings feel like special lands to me. Places that exist to escape into…a rendering of imagination. The original Nintendo Super Mario world had tunnels and clouds and lower levels. Flags and prizes and surprises! That pops into my mind while painting. So does the idea of underground homes that are created to live in one day, if the outside becomes too dangerous. This painting feels like a place I can go to and be surrounded by best friends. Doesn’t that feel good?"
