Absence of Certainty
"'Absence of Certainty' is a piece exploring the frenetic energy I experience when I don’t feel in control. When stress, pain, sickness etc feel overbearing, my learned behavior has been to jump into action and fix it. Now, I learn to practice mindfulness and find stillness when I feel that I’m in a narrow place and trust that with that with the right support my body will settle again. The background in this piece is active and the forms seem to be tangled with each other, however they feel as if they are moving a bit slower amongst the chaos in the background. This is another piece where I enjoy the contrast of mark making with graphite and oil pastel against flat color. Transferring my own frenetic energy into marks on the page is therapeutic."
