36 Sixteenths in Relationship to Afro Blue

"In this piece, I wanted to use the main color, blue, in relationship to the title in which the musician John Coltrane did a musical composition, Afro Blue. This piece is in the abstract trying to create intensity with the mask atop making the connection with African culture now being tied to the canvas. Several singers have also sung Afro Blue, such as Oscar Brown, Jr."

- Charles Blackwell
