"Largely disconnected from the outer-world during the deep pandemic, I drew the inspiration for this piece from a background pattern which I spotted during one of final scenes of the Netflix series The Queen's Gambit where the main character steps into her power and takes on her chess rival. I was attracted to the various fields of color which formed abstract hexagons. I translated the pattern into three-dimensionality to explore form, light, line and shadow of a variety of hexagonal shapes which I then compiled to create the composition before you. The artwork represents bravery and commemorates the courage it takes to meet life's challenges head on."
