Susan Pasowicz

Chicago, IL

I usually draw tunnels, portals, curly top trees, clouds, the future.”

A Chicago native for her entire life, Susan Pasowicz is a dreamer and visionary. Fascinated by mystery, color, and organic forms, Sue intuitively uses colored pencil and graphite to create whimsical, dream-like landscapes. Informed by both the fantastical and everyday, hints of her surroundings and memories become tangled in a web of wispy, hair-like marks that build up on the works’ surface. Often incorporating mirrors, portals, windows, or doors, her work transports the viewer to nebulous and magical environments.

Sue is an artist with Arts of Life, a studio in Chicago that supports artists living with physical and intellectual disabilities. Through Arts of Life, Sue has participated in many exhibitions around the country. She explains, “I like seeing exhibitions so I can learn from other peoples’ artwork, you can pick up different types of ideas.” She was featured in exhibitions such as Sugar Town at Ruschman, Untitled Art Fair in Miami, the Outsider Art Fair in NYC, EXPO Chicago, Barely Fair, as well as Electric Pink Lemonade, Slow Read, and All Well and Good at Circle Contemporary.

Susan shares, “As things come into my head, I draw on a piece of paper; sometimes I use both hands and two colors at the same time.” Susan is keen to make every piece unique and individual. “I don’t want to do the same thing I did before. You can’t be picking the same titles as the others, because it won’t be an individual thing,” she shares. Sue works hard to layer her delicate marks until she feels settled and sure it is complete. “It depends how long I work on a drawing. If it’s a major piece of paper, I could work on it quite a long time before it’s proper.” ArtLifting is proud to represent Susan’s unforgettable work and one-of-a-kind perspective.
